Description

What is a CV vs resume?

The CV presents a full history of your academic credentials, so the length of the document is variable. In contrast, a resume presents a concise picture of your skills and qualifications for a specific position, so length tends to be shorter and dictated by years of experience (generally 1-2 pages).

What should my CV look like?

It should tell them about you, your professional history and your skills, abilities and achievements. Ultimately, it should highlight why you're the best person for the job. A CV is required when applying for a job. In addition to your CV, employers may also require a cover letter and a completed application form.

Can I use a CV instead of a resume?

A resume is the preferred application document in the US and Canada. Americans and Canadians would only use a CV when applying for a job abroad or if searching for an academic or research-oriented position. In the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand, a CV is used in all contexts and resumes aren't used at all.

How long should your CV be?

Keep your CV concise and to the point. It should be no more than 2 pages of A4 unless you are applying for an academic / research post. Focus on your recent and most relevant experience and achievements. The employer wants to read a tailored CV focused on transferable experience, skills and achievements.
